(WIAA) – Second-seeded The Prairie School cruised to a 5-0 win over former defending champion and top-seeded Xavier to capture the Division 4 crown in the battle of the Hawks mascots at Uilehn Soccer Park in Milwaukee on Saturday.
Meghan Gavigan began the scoring with a header off a corner kick by Elle Jaramillo with 4:56 gone in the first half. Constanza Reyes Belaunzaran scored on a corner kick that grazed off a defender into the goal at the 19:52 mark. Gavigan added her second goal of the half at 37:48 by deflecting a corner kick from Belaunzaran inside the far post to give The Prairie School a 3-0 halftime advantage.
The Prairie School added two goals in the second half. Keira Kimbrough converted on another assist from Belaunzaran with a header to increase the lead to 4-0 at 55:57. Belaunzaran closed the scoring with a penalty kick at 59:07.
The Prairie School owned a 12-6 lead in shots and a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal, led by Gavigan with three, and Belaunzaran and Kimbrough with two. Kayla Standish recorded the only two shots on goal for Xavier.
Finley Remington played all 80 minutes in goal for The Prairie School and was credited with the shutout victory, making two saves. Abigail Anderson made four saves for Xavier.
The Prairie School won its third State title in the program’s 10th State Tournament appearance. Xavier finished runner-up in its 13th State experience.
Division 3
Top-seeded McFarland (18-0-4) shut out second-seeded Kiel (25-1-1) 2-0 in the Division 3 final to claim the championship.
Bergen Westrum scored the only goal of the first half, kicking a loose ball into the top corner of the goal at the 24:59 mark. The Spartans scored again on a goal by Allison Charbonneau at the 48:36 mark of the second half. She converted a cross from 10 yards out.
McFarland held a 15-5 advantage in shots, and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Charbonneau led all players with seven shots, including two on goal, and Alex Faust added five shots with three on goal. Jaylah Moore played all 80 minutes in goal to earn the win, making three saves.
Taavi Saeger recorded three shots and was one of three Raiders to record one shot on goal in the game. Mya Langenfeld made five saves on seven shots on goal.
McFarland won the school’s second State crown in three appearances in the State Tournament. Kiel finished the season as the State runner-up in its fifth tournament experience.
Division 1
Top-seeded Divine Savior Holy Angels (19-2-2) ended third-seeded Muskego’s four-year reign as champion in Division 1 with a 3-1 victory over the Warriors in the title game.
After a scoreless first half, Reese Roethe scored an unassisted goal by bending a shot to the corner of the goal to give the Angels a 1-0 lead at the 47:15 mark.
Muskego tied the game at 59:46 with a shot by Taylor Collins over the goalkeeper and under the post. Sadie Mittelstaedt was credited with an assist.
The tie was short-lived because the Dashers scored just 14 seconds later. Mary Stith scored on a break following the ensuing kickoff with an assist from Avery Roethe. Sarah Mcelherne added insurance with an unassisted goal on a rebound following a save on a corner kick.
DSHA outshot the Warriors 19-8 in the game, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Sarah Mcelherne led the Dashers in shots with seven, including five on goal. Collins led Muskego with three shots and one on goal.
Caitlin Caprez played all 80 minutes in goal for the Dashers and faced three shots on goal, making two saves. Savannah Mittelstaedt made eight saves for the Warriors.
DSHA won its sixth State championship in its 13th State Tournament appearance. Muskego finished runner-up in its 11th State experience.
Division 2
Top-seeded Brookfield Central (13-3) won the Division 2 championship for the second year in a row by defeating Wauwatosa East (16-4-1) 5-0 in the title game.
Charlotte Vaughn scored the only goal the Lancers would need by kicking a cross from Stella Wien past the goalkeeper at 20:43 into the game. Wien added an unassisted goal 12 minutes later at 32:56 to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead. In the final minute of the first half, Kara Delisle scored on a diagonal kick from the wing at 39:34 with an assist from Dylan Romero.
Alexandra Rossi scored both goals in the second half for the Lancers. Her first goal of the period was unassisted at 49:02, and the second came on loose ball kicked into the goal at the 77:58 mark.
Brookfield Central outshot the Red Raiders 14-4 in the game, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. Rossi led all players in shots with five, including three on goal. Wien added a pair of shots on goal. Annie Robinson earned the win, making one save in 72:27 in goal.
Four players had one shot for Wauwatosa East, with Mimi Guran and Chloe Kizewski having the only shots on goal. Olivia Ruby made three saves in 80 minutes in goal.
Brookfield Central won its eighth State championship in its 15th tournament appearance. Both totals rank third among all schools. Wauwatosa East finished runner-up in its 10th State experience.
