(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) FARGO, N.D. — The Marquette University women’s soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) recorded its second consecutive shutout to open the season, earning a 2-0 victory over North Dakota State (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Summit League) Sunday afternoon at Dacotah Field.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Megan Murray intercepted a backward pass intended for the NDSU goalkeeper and found the back of the net to give Marquette an early 1-0 advantage.
Marquette carried the one-goal lead into halftime before continuing to apply pressure after the break. The Golden Eagles recorded nine shots in the second half, while goalkeeper Mia Hurd kept the Bison off the scoreboard with two saves on the afternoon.
With just over five minutes remaining, Marquette doubled its advantage. Jocelyn Leigh’s shot rang off the post before Murray collected the rebound and finished the chance in the 85th minute for her second goal of the afternoon.
