(UW ATHLETICS) MINNEAPOLIS – Head coach Yvette Healy earned her 600th career win as the Wisconsin softball team shutout Minnesota 4-0 at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium in the series opener on Friday night.
Senior Shelby Jacobson held strong in the circle for the Badgers, earning her second complete game shutout in conference play this season. The Chicago native racked up five strikeouts while holding the Gophers’ (15-31, 6-13 B1G) offense to just four hits.
The Badgers got off to an early start, plating two runs in the first three innings off forced errors from the Gophers’ defense. The bats went quiet from there, before Wisconsin rallied to a strong offensive showing to close out the game.
In the top of the seventh, Hannah Conger reached first on a fielder’s choice as pinch runner Makenzie Foster on third thanks to an error on the Gophers’ defense. With junior Emily Bojan up to bat, Conger stole second to put two Badgers into scoring position. The junior then barreled a line drive out to left field, bringing in two runs to put Wisconsin up 4-0.
Jacobson got the job done in the bottom of the seventh, adding in one more strike out on the day to seal the series opener win.
