MADISON, WI – Act now to reserve space in Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association’s virtual Train the Safety Trainer Course on December 1 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (CT). Registration and sponsorship details for the program are available now at WisCheeseMakers.org/trainings.
“The foundation — and top priority — of any successful dairy processing plant is the safety of their workforce, which is why WCMA developed its Train the Safety Trainer course,” said Rebekah Sweeney, WCMA Senior Director of Programs and Policy. “Space in the program is limited, so we encourage you to register now.”
WCMA’s Train the Safety Trainer course is thoughtfully designed with input from WCMA’s Health & Safety Group and is taught in an interactive style by instructors from Chippewa Valley Technical College. It covers best practices for design and delivery methods used by successful workforce safety trainers. While those attending should already have a strong grasp on industry safety practices, instructors will emphasize training around the areas of concern in the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) ongoing Regional Emphasis Program for food processors. These areas include machine guarding, lockout/tagout, prevention of slips, trips, and falls, and chemical controls Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Define training and facilitation in the workplace;
- Conduct a training needs assessment;
- Evaluate their training programs for clarity and efficacy;
- Understand various presentation tools and methods;
- Identify the characteristics of an exceptional trainer;
- Discuss adult learning principles;
- Handle environmental challenges and disruptive participants; and
- Develop vocal, verbal, and visual skills to conduct an effective training class.
Train the Safety Trainer registration is limited to 20 attendees and costs $249 per person.
