HOBART (WLUK) — The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department is denying media requests for access to video of the domestic violence incident involving Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs and a former girlfriend.
The department cites the ongoing civil proceedings involving Jacobs and the victim to block release of the video.
In September, Brown County Judge Marc Hammer denied the victim’s request to seal the video permanently. Hammer gave the police department clearance to release records in the case under Wisconsin Public Records Law.
Jacobs was convicted of misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property for a May incident at his Hobart home.
“The department has determined that these recordings are subject to the applicable statutory restriction,” reads the response to the request. “Accordingly, the recordings will be withheld while the restriction remains in effect, unless disclosure is subsequently authorized by law or directed by the court.”
This means the video could be released at a later date. The department says it shows the alleged battery that happened in Jacobs’ garage. The victim’s body would be pixelated.
Jacobs was placed on the NFL’s Commissioner Exempt List due to a league investigation into the incident. He missed the first six games of the season. He has since re-joined the team.
The NFL is still investigating for possible violations to the league’s personal conduct policy.
