GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) –Brown County Library has earned a first-in-the-state certification as a “Family Place Library,” a designation aimed at supporting families with children ages zero to three.
The initiative focuses on early literacy events, support services and parent education for families with young children.
A leader from the New York-based Family Place Libraries foundation visited the library to honor the designation. Kristen Todd-Wurm said the Brown County Library is “a true model of what a Family Place Library should be.”
“You can hear and see from what is happening behind me that this is what a library should be for families with young children,” Todd-Wurm said. “A place to go, a place to feel safe. Not many places like two-year-olds coming in and making noise, but a library does, because toys and play are the foundation for learning.”
The library also now has a community resources professional available weekly to answer questions about literacy and childhood development.
