(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College took a 1-0 win over Marian University to open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights (3-2-2, 1-0 NACC) pulled ahead at 68:16 from a nicely timed Everett Saeger strike that found the far-right corner off an assist from Alex Sada.
St. Norbert had its fair share of chances to take the lead, with Mathias Wernig nearly putting away an attempt off a corner kick that was blocked by a defender on the goal line. A Sam Thompson hit almost found the back of the net at 58:05 if not for a save from Marian’s Tyler Hall.
The Sabres thought they had found a late leveler at 82:35, when Brayden Johnson’s shot fell just wide of the post by mere inches.
Both teams recorded ten shots, with five from St. Norbert hitting on target. Jackson Kiszka (pictured) recorded his first clean sheet of the season with three saves.
