APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A teen is accused of entering unlocked vehicles in Appleton and taking cash.
Just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to suspicious person complaints in the 900blk N. Bennett Street and 800 blk W. Winnebago Street.
Officers located three teens, ages 13 to 15, standing near the intersection of Locust Street and Winnebago Street.
Officers subsequently reviewed security camera footage provided by a nearby homeowner showing a male in the homeowner’s driveway. The clothing and backpack worn by the individual in the video matched those of one of the juveniles contacted by officers.
During the investigation, officers determined that one of the juveniles had been entering unsecured vehicles and taking cash. The juvenile was unable to recall how many vehicles had been entered or the specific locations of the vehicles.
The teen was referred to Juvenile Intake for theft. The other two juveniles were released to their guardians.
Appleton police remind residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and always lock their vehicle doors, even when parked at home or for a short period of time. Taking these simple precautions can help prevent vehicle break-ins and reduce opportunities for theft.
