WASHINGTON ISLAND, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The bodies of two kayakers who went missing over the weekend near Washington Island have been recovered.
According to the Door County Sheriff’s Office, the bodies of 20-year-old David Thalman of Dundee, Illinois, and 20-year-old Franceska Warick of South Elgin, Illinois, were both recovered on Monday.
Thalman’s body was located at approximately 10:55 a.m.
Shortly after, Warick’s body was also recovered from the water.
Both Thalman and Warwick were reported missing Saturday after authorities received several reports about two kayakers leaving without life jackets and not returning.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the recovery efforts by the Washington Island Police Department, Gibraltar Police Department, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
