APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Appleton Fire Department was called around 3:30 a.m. Sunday July 26th for a fire at a home on the 2500 block of South Kernan Avenue in Appleton.
Neighbors woke up to smoke and flames coming from the single-family home. Once fire crews arrived they found fire in the back and the front of the home with flames also on the roof. Fire officials were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes with multiple fire hoses going.
The homeowner was home at the time of the fire and was awakened by a smoke detector. He evacuated safely prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Damages to the building and items are estimated to be about $225,000.
Firefighters are working to determine a cause.
The Appleton Fire Department was assisted by Appleton Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, and Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue.
