LEDGEVIEW (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fire officials in Ledgeview say a duplex fire is believed to have been caused by an electric bike.
Just before 2 a.m. Monday, firefighters were called to 2070 River Point Court for a report of a structure fire. The caller stated that an electric bike was on fire in the garage and now the garage was fully engulfed.
When crews arrived, they found a two-story duplex with heavy smoke and flames showing from the garage.
All occupants had evacuated the residence but said they could not find their cat and dog.
Once the fire was controlled, crews were able to enter the house to search for the pets.
Firefighters found a cat and a dog alive and reunited them with their owners.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the families involved with the fire.
No occupants or firefighters were injured during this incident.
While the caller indicated a electric bike caught fire, the Brown County Fire Investigation Team was still called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The National Fire Protection Association recommends charging an e-bike in a flat, dry area away from children, direct sunlight, liquids, tripping hazards, and in a location where the e-bike is not at risk of falling, and do not keep the battery charging after it is fully charged.
