OCONTO FALLS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new hospice wing at an Oconto Falls nursing home will provide dedicated care to end-of-life patients.
Unity Hospice, a nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider in Northeast Wisconsin, partnered with Meadowbrook at Oconto Falls to open the space. It’s part of an effort to meet the growing demand for hospice care in this region.
“Collaboration between nursing homes and hospice is essential to improve access to quality care for more patients during end-of-life,” said Alisa Gerke, Unity Hospice executive director, in a news release. “The hospice wing is a reflection of our unwavering commitment as a nonprofit hospice to respond to the needs of our communities and put people over profits.”
According to officials, the Unity Sunset Wing at Meadowbrook “provides a homelike, caring environment for around-the-clock hospice care until the end-of-life, as well as for temporary caregiver relief.”
Patients and families benefit not only from a full complement of compassionate staff who provide medical, emotional, spiritual and grief support, but also amenities such as private and semi-private rooms, freshly prepared meals and a family gathering area. Visits from family, friends and pets are welcome at any time.
Synergy Senior Care Chief Marketing Officer Chris Pryor said, “Hospice services offered by Unity are fully covered by Medicare and most insurance plans.”
