NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Five people were taken to area hospitals Friday after a wrong-way crash on I-41 in Winnebago County.
The Sheriff’s Office received calls of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-41 near Winneconne Avenue in Neenah.
Deputies attempted to stop the pick-up truck near Breezewood Lane. The driver continued traveling south before making an emergency turnaround. The truck then headed north in the southbound lanes of the interstate.
“Deputies engaged in a pursuit with the pick-up truck, but the driver did not comply,” reads a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
The truck hit four vehicles, causing significant damage.
Five people were taken to local hospitals by ambulance and by helicopter. No information was released on their conditions.
The Sheriff’s Office did not say if the driver was among the injured.
The Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
