(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON – The Wisconsin softball team dropped its regular season finale, falling to Rutgers 16-2 at Goodman Diamond on Sunday afternoon in run-rule fashion.
After the Badgers (30-18, 14-10 B1G) answered the Scarlet Knights (27-27, 6-18 B1G) with two of their own in the first inning, Rutgers offense erupted for 15 unanswered runs.
The Scarlet Knights tallied nine runs in the third frame to pull away, all coming with two outs in the inning.
Wisconsin’s offense went silent after the first frame, as Rutgers snapped a six-game winning streak.
Batting Cleanup:
- Wisconsin finished with a 14-10 conference record, good for their third-most victories in program history. UW has reached 15 twice and 16 once in its 30-year history.
- The Badgers set a school record for most runs scored (136) and most RBI (124) in Big Ten play this year.
- UW’s pitching staff allowed a season-high in hits with 20.
- Rutgers’ nine runs in the third inning tied a program record for the most allowed in that frame, matching the nine the Badgers allowed at Alabama in 1998.
- The Badgers celebrated seniors Emily Bojan, Shelby Jacobson and Rylie Crane, as each athlete played their final game at Goodman Diamond.
