(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – Marquette University track and field posted several notable performances Friday at the Badger Challenge hosted by Wisconsin in Madison, highlighted by a school record in the women’s javelin and multiple event victories and podium finishes despite cool and breezy conditions at the Dan McClimon Track and Field Complex.
“We had a solid meet tonight despite the cool temperatures. The Javelin women put up some big marks highlighted by Riley breaking her own record again. I’m proud of how we competed” Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Bert Rogers said.
Junior Riley Ward delivered the performance of the meet for the Golden Eagles, besting her own school record in the women’s javelin with a throw of 47.22m to finish second overall. Her mark improved her personal best by six feet and reset the program standard in the event. Junior Tessa Hollander added another top‑five field finish on the women’s side, placing fourth in the javelin at 43.52m.
On the track, sophomore Olivia Verden earned a fourth‑place finish in the 400‑meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.10, while sophomore Natalie Lupa followed closely behind in fifth at 1:10.18. In the open 400 meters, sophomore Izzy Kissane placed fifth in 1:01.23, marking Marquette’s top finish in the event.
Graduate student Daylee Braden led the women’s middle‑distance efforts, finishing sixth in the 800 meters in 2:11.45. Freshman Ally Boyer recorded a personal record in the 400 meters, running 1:06.03 to place seventh. Freshman Taya Gummerson posted a significant personal best in the 5,000 meters, running 18:26.72 to improve her lifetime mark by 16 seconds.
In the field, junior Megan White recorded a personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.50m, while sophomore Ally Broaddus added a strong throw of 48.57m in the event. Freshman Alexandra Boyer cleared 3.40m in the pole vault for a personal record, while graduate student Libby McCarthy posted a personal best of 4.68m in the long jump.
On the men’s side, freshman Drew Klopcic claimed an event victory in the 400‑meter hurdles, crossing the line in 53.69 to win the race outright. Freshman Charlie Dutmer added a fifth‑place finish in the event while setting a personal record of 55.95. In the 400m, freshman Blake Frea finished third in 47.89, while freshman Bobby King placed fourth in 48.26, giving Marquette two top‑four finishes.
Senior John Pitta highlighted the men’s field performances with a runner‑up finish in the high jump, clearing 1.91m, while sophomore Russell Czerwinski also cleared the same height to finish fourth. Junior Henrik Rosario added a personal record clearance of 1.76m to place fifth. Pitta also recorded a fourth‑place finish in the triple jump at 13.55m.
In the pole vault, freshman Mason Cornwell posted a personal record and top‑five finish by clearing 4.53m to place fourth, while sophomore Matthew Ferrario added a personal best of 4.38m in fifth. Freshman Louis Hebson recorded a personal record of 6.28m in the long jump.
Men’s throws were led by freshman Tommy Majchrowicz, who placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 55.97m, narrowly edging teammate Cole Donahe, who finished sixth at 55.91m. Rosario added another personal record in the javelin, throwing 53.59m to place seventh. In the hammer throw, junior Sebastian Kubas recorded a personal record of 50.44m.
