GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Converting told the state it will lay off 32 workers, effective Saturday, as a result of the March 16 fire. The figure is in line with the announcement earlier this week it would layoff off “fewer than 35” employees.
Green Bay Converting is in its fifth week of recovery since the blaze that began March 16 ultimately destroyed its warehouse and inventory. High winds and heavy snow from winter storms hampered firefighting efforts at the 320,000-square-foot warehouse, which continued to burn for days. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
“Green Bay Converting regrets to inform you that, due to the catastrophic, March 16, 2026 fire at the Company’s Larsen Rd. facility, and despite the Company’s best efforts and plans to re-tool and rebuild, the Company has made the difficult decision to lay off a group of 32 employees who were formerly assigned to our facilities in Green Bay,” Johnathan Dyer, CEO, wrote in the letter to the Dept. of Workforce Development.
By job title, 15 of the workers were ‘assistant operators,’ plus there were five ‘crew’ and ‘maintenance,’ plus assorted other positions, the letter states.
The company hopes to restart production with two months.
