(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team (3-3) wraps a four-game road stretch this Friday at Youngstown State (0-5). First draw is set for 11 a.m. CT, with YSU providing a live broadcast on their Youtube channel.
LAST TIME OUT
Marquette fell 15-13 at Jacksonville on Sunday despite a career‑tying four goals from Sarah Beth Burns and six points from Dani Serrano. MU used a six‑goal run to build a first‑half lead, but the Dolphins closed strong to reclaim control. Tess Osburn, Hanna Bodner and Ella Mautz each scored twice, while Riley Jenkins and Burns grabbed four draws apiece and the Yang–Howell duo combined for nine saves.
HISTORY VS. YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Marquette and Youngstown State have met just once in program history, with the Golden Eagles holding a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series. The lone matchup came on Feb. 17, 2023, in Youngstown, where MU earned an 18-11 road victory
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State enters the matchup at 0-5, still searching for its first win of 2026 after a challenging opening stretch that has included lopsided losses to Bucknell, George Mason and Monmouth. In their most recent outing on Feb. 25, the Penguins fell 14-5 at UMBC. The attack is led by contributors like Natalie Calandra-Rya and Lydia Laney, who supplied multi-point performances in their narrow 14-12 loss to Old Dominion earlier in the season.
BLACK, PROGRAM IN SEARCH OF 100TH WIN
Head coach Meredith Black, now in her 14th year leading the program she built from the ground up, has Marquette on the verge of a major milestone as the Golden Eagles pursue the 100th win in program history. Since guiding MU into its inaugural 2013 season, Black has taken the team from start‑up status to national relevance, highlighted by a program‑record 15–4 season and NCAA Tournament berth in 2023, followed by another 10‑win campaign in 2025. A victory at Youngstown State would add another landmark to Black’s transformational tenure.
SUSTAINED OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION
Marquette continues to establish itself as one of the nation’s most efficient scoring teams, averaging 15.33 goals per game on 92 total goals through six contests, a mark that ranks No. 12 nationally and reflects a balanced attack that converts at a 53.5 percent shooting clip. The Golden Eagles have hit double figures in every outing, carrying a scoring margin of +8 to this point in the season.
EIGHT-METER EXECUTION
MU’s free‑position unit has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable scoring mechanisms. The Golden Eagles are 17-for-23 (.739) on eight‑meter attempts—second nationally—and have leaned on Sarah Beth Burns (4 FPG), Dani Serrano (3), and Tess Osburn (2) to create consistent production from these opportunities. Opponents, by comparison, operate at just 37.9 percent.
