GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Changes are coming to Brown County’s Central Library branch.
On Tuesday, the library board voted to open at 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m., effective Jan. 24.
The board also noted behavioral issues that staff members face from library visitors, specifically on Saturdays. As a result, the board is considering adding extra security staff on Saturdays.
The library previously had those resources, but they were discontinued in 2017.
“It’s just, in general, part of the library’s best practices and what every public library does to regularly review their operations and procedures, just to make sure that they’re providing the right kind of library environment where folks feel comfortable bringing in their families, bringing themselves. People to work and enjoy themselves and use the library resources and services and spaces,” said Sarah Sugden, the Brown County Library executive director.
As part of its vote, the board ordered a risk assessment to be done this week.
If the risk assessment were to come back with a result of “high risk,” the library would be closed Saturdays until the proper security services could be put in place.
