MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s a sign of warmer weather when the S.S. Badger returns to the shores of Manitowoc.
The S.S. Badger Lake Michigan Car Ferry made its return from Ludington, Michigan to Manitowoc Friday, officially kicking off the 2025 sailing season.
Welcoming the 410-foot car ferry back was a community party featuring the Lincoln High School marching band, alpacas from LondonDairy Alpacas, the Red Hatters, and local elementary school students.
Before its first seasonal voyage, the S.S. Badger was at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, undergoing a propeller shaft bearing repair.
The S.S. Badger will continue to operate daily from Friday through Oct. 12. Regular overnight crossings begin June 20 and end Sept. 1. In addition to the sailings between Ludington and Manitowoc, there are four Manitowoc shoreline cruise dates scheduled along our lakefront. Click here for tickets and tours.
