WAUSAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 48-year-old woman died Friday evening after crashing her car into a tree in the town of Wausaukee.
According to a release from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, Sandra A. Kollenbroich, was driving east on State Highway 180 when she failed to make a curve, went into the ditch and crashed into a tree. Kollenbroich was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the area of 180 and Old County C for a traffic complaint involving a potentially intoxicated driver just after 8:30 p.m. While trying to locate the vehicle from that call Marinette County dispatch received a report 40 minutes later of a one-vehicle crash.
The report stated the vehicle left the road and was in the pine trees.
Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
