GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Shareholders in jerseys, costumes, and cheeseheads filled the stands at Lambeau Field Monday.
This year, the annual shareholders meeting was held on the same day as the first day of training camp. Jim Krasowski from Wausau says he likes that the change in the schedule brought larger crowds.
“The fact that they had first practice and the shareholder meeting on the same day, I think is going to more than triple the attendance at the meeting,” he explained. “I think that’s good for the Packers.”
The official number of those in attendance was 7,676 shareholders in the stadium and 1,400 online.
“Like to see what the news is on new players — how people are developing, coming along, that sort of stuff,” Al Feldhauser told us.
Al and his wife Susan from Marquette, Michigan make the drive every year. They said Jordan Love’s absence from practice doesn’t worry them.
“We just were talking about that we had heard he wasn’t practicing today because of his contract,” Susan said.
“It’ll be cleared up, we’re not worried,” Al added.
At the shareholders meeting, the Packers announced that Clay Matthews and Aaron Kampman will be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in August.
The Board of Directors also shared details about the renovations to Lambeau, including a third locker room. Murphy said they plan for it to be used to host college and soccer games in the future.
In a press conference after the meeting, Mark Murphy said the annual event brings fans closer to the team.
“I think because of our ownership structure, and this meeting shows it more than anything else, they have such a stronger connection to the team than fans of other teams do,” Murphy said.
Krasowski agrees. “We’re here because we have the best team in the league. Drink to that,” he said while raising a beer.
