The Milwaukee Brewers came out swinging in their return to American Family Field, opening up a four game series with division rival St. Louis and they spanked the Cardinals 7-1 Thursday night. St. Louis starter Sonny Gray had given up just one home run in his first five starts this season but the Brewers touched him for three long balls. Rhys Hoskins delivered a two run shot in the first, his 8th of the year, Jake Bauers and Joey Ortiz hit solo bombs as Gray gave up five runs on 7 hits in five innings. Tobias Myers meanwhile, gave up only a solo homer to Lars Noortbar in the third. He made it through four innings and Jared Koenig, becoming the bullpen workhorse, picked up the win in relief. William Contreras went three for four with an RBI and in his second game back off the injured list, Christian Yelich is quickly getting back into the groove. After going 0 for 5 as the DH in Kansas City, Yelich was back in left field and he delivered a three for four night at the plate with an RBI triple. The Brewers improved to 22-25 on the season and they’ll continue the series with the Cards Friday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM with a 7:10 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
