ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — The Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) is hosting one of its major championships in Green Bay May 14-21 at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley.
The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Queens event includes 180 top female competitors from 17 different countries vying for the coveted tiara, $60 thousand, and a place on the historic list of champions.
The competition starts with 15 games of qualifying spread over 3 rounds of 5 games Thursday, May 16-Saturday, May 18.
After Saturday’s competition, the field is cut to the top 63 bowlers plus the defending champion from 2023 (Lindsay Boomershine). From there, bowlers will compete in a double elimination bracket tournament on Sunday, May 19 and Monday, May 20. Each round consists of 3 games with total pins determining the winner of the match. Competition concludes on Tuesday, May 21 with the 5 surviving bowlers in a step ladder finals broadcast live on CBS Sports network.
Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley hosted the same event back in 2015. Owner Matt Orvis says he’s excited to host again.
“I’m very proud of what we have here; I love our business, love the employees, and love the community that we’re in,” said Orvis. “So to have the ability to show the bowling world what we’re all about, a lot of pride goes into that.”
Bowling fans and the general public are encouraged to attend the event to view world-class bowling. The cost of admission varies by round. A full week pass is $80.
The public is also encouraged to participate in the USBC Queens Pro-Am event “Bowl with the Pros” on May 14, starting at 7 p.m. Participants will compete in a 9 Pin Bowling event. They will bowl with 6 professional women bowlers.
