GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Green Bay alderman who won his seat in the April 2 election has been taken the oath of office after a series of challenges.
A recount determined Joey Prestley defeated District 6 incumbent Steve Campbell 355 to 339.
Campbell requested the recount after the initial tally showed he lost by 15 votes. Green Bay city clerk Celestine Jeffreys says the recount found a write-in vote was not originally tabulated.
Although Campbell filed objections, the Board of Canvass determined election day ballots, absentee ballots, absentee certificates, poll books and other documentation were in order.
Campbell will be charged $6,624.25 for the recount, which took 13 1/2 hours.
Prestley was appointed to the Parks/Improvement and Services Committee, Sustainability Commission and Equal Rights Commission.
Prestley will be formally sworn in at the May 7 city council meeting.
