MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – High school students in the Fox Valley got a tour of a greener future this Earth Day.
Students from Winneconne High School’s Project Lead the Way program toured the site of Maplewood Middle School in Menasha.
The school will be all electric as well as heated and cooled with a geothermal system.
There will also be solar panels on the roof to off-set the building’s electric use.
The goal is to be a zero-net energy school.
An official from Miron Construction spoke on just how much the students got to see when to comes to building green.
“Just for them to see the level of detail and planning that had to go into this project. From the owners goal setting, to what it take to construct the building”, says Theresa Lehman, Miron’s Director of Sustainable Services.
The students also presented to Miron what they learned about design and building codes when it comes to going green.
The school aligns with the City of Menasha’s and the State of Wisconsin’s energy goal of being carbon neutral by 2050.
