Two streaks ended Monday night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh as the Pirates snapped a six game slide and ended Milwaukee’s four game winning streak with a 4-2 victory in the first of a four game series. Andrew McCutcheon took Joe Ross deep for a solo home run in the first inning against his former team. Rhys Hoskins got the game even with a long ball in the 5th but the Pirates took advantage of a Jake Bauers error to plate three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ross was pulled after five and a third innings, giving up six hits and just one earned run. Hoskins would add a second RBI with a groundout in the 8th. The Brewers maintained their lead in the NL Central but drop to 14-7 on the season with game two coming Tuesday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:05 PM with a 5:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
The Milwaukee pitching staff continues to erode with Wade Miley going on the 10 day injured list Monday with elbow inflammation. Jakob Junis had to be taken to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday night after a freak accident, getting hit in the neck by a line drive during batting practice. He remained down on the field before the game for several minutes before taken by ambulance and held for observation. An update is expected from the club Tuesday afternoon.
