CRANDON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Ahead of Crandon students returning to class next week, the district says it installed carbon monoxide detectors in each school.
Earlier this month, the building was evacuated after 39 people fell ill and were treated at area hospitals. Two had reported levels of carbon monoxide.
For the past two weeks, hazardous materials teams have been cleaning the school. Additional tests for water contamination, hazardous metals and other harmful chemicals and substances were done and did not reveal anything abnormal, a statement from the district Thursday says.
And when students return to class on April 2, staff will monitor detectors daily and will continue to perform regular maintenance of all HVAC components in the building.
