The bats have come alive in the waning days of Spring Training for the Milwaukee Brewers. They slugged four more home runs in a 10-1 romp over the Colorado Rockies in Cactus League action Monday afternoon. Eric Haase had the biggest blow, a three run shot. Rhys Hoskins, William Contreras and Joey Ortiz also left the yard. In his final mound tune-up, Colin Rea delivered five and two thirds scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five. The Brewers (15-14) have one more game with the Rockies on Tuesday before breaking camp. They’ll do so amidst some tough news for young outfield Garrett Mitchell. It was revealed by the club Monday that Mitchell, injured while getting jammed on a pitch over the weekend, suffered a fractured bone in his left hand that will keep him sidelined at least a month and maybe longer. Mitchell made an immediate impact as a rookie last season when it got cut short after injuring his shoulder forcing him to miss five months.
Haase is likely to secure Mitchell’s roster spot to help in the outfield.
The Brewers open the 2024 season Thursday at CitiField in New York against the Mets. Pre-game coverage will begin at 11:30 AM with a 12:10 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
