NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Board of Education for the Neenah Joint School District approved a plan Tuesday night by a 5-4 vote to close Hoover Elementary School for the 2024-25 academic year.
It comes as part of a larger boundary revision plan, which district officials said primarily affects students living in the current boundaries for Lakeview, Coolidge and Horace Mann Elementary Schools.
“It will relieve overcrowding at Lakeview and fill extra capacity at Coolidge and Horace Mann. Some students at Tullar Elementary were also affected by the change,” Communications Director Jim Strick said in a statement.
Strick said all staff members will retain jobs within the district at a similar employment level. He added Hoover staff will be kept together and with Hoover students “as much as possible.”
The plan will save between approximately $473,000 and $653,000 in staff costs, as well as an estimated $48,000 in building costs, Strick said. At this point, the district has no plans to sell the Hoover building.
