WEYAUWEGA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Weyauwega family that lost four siblings in a wrong-way crash with a suspected drunken driver last month has been dealt another blow.
The family tells FOX 11 the only surviving child of Paulina Gonzalez was again denied a visa to travel to the United States to grieve with his mother.
Fabian (23), Lilian (14) and Daniela (9) Gonzalez were killed in the Dec. 16 crash. Daniel Gonzalez, 25, died a few days later, after becoming an organ donor. Their oldest brother, Jorge Gonzalez, still lives in their homeland of Ecuador.
Kurt Schilling, who is married to the Gonzalez children’s mother, tells FOX 11 Jorge had an interview at the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador on Tuesday.
Schilling said Gonzalez traveled 10 hours to the embassy with a stack of paperwork in hand, hoping to receive an emergency visa to be able to travel to the U.S. to be with his mother. But, like previous interviews at the embassy, Schilling says Gonzalez was only asked a few questions before his application was denied.
The family of Gonzalez children held a funeral for the four siblings last week in Weyauwega. They are currently in the process of arranging to take the four children back home to Ecuador, their birthplace, where they’ll be laid to rest.
