My DMs: Flooded with messages asking for more information
Repeat all Summer long….
I love that my followers are just as into reading as I am. So when I got an overwhelming response to posting the books I have read so far this Summer I decided why not make a blog about it! And now here we are! I do want to preface this “review” by saying that there hasn’t been a single book that I haven’t liked and I have nothing bad to say about any of them. So it’s not going to be so much of a review as just recommendations for you! I have these listed as my favorite to least favorite. Let’s get started…
- Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – Okay… This was a hard read at first. It took me a good 100-150 pages to really get into it but once I was WOW. This story is amazing. And heartbreaking. And beautiful. Don’t let the slow start stop you from finishing. I promise it’s worth it. Plus Reese Witherspoon is making it into a movie so you need to be prepared!
- The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah – Kristin Hannah is by far my favorite author of all time so when Charli asked if I wanted to borrow this book I could not say yes faster. It is about a family who moves into the middle of nowhere in Alaska and have to learn to survive. The Dad is a raging alcoholic and it is told from the daughters perspective. There is so much heart in this one and really keeps you locked in until the very end. One of my favorites I have read from her by far!
- Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell – A thriller with a love story and lot’s of family drama. That is how I would describe this book and probably why I loved it so much. I was about halfway through this book when I had a suspicion of how it might end. Turns out I was right but that didn’t stop me from reading it in a day. Such a fast read!
- The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides – I finished this one last night and let me just say the massive amount of people who DM’d me saying how crazy this one was were not wrong. Did. Not. See. That. Ending. Coming. Another murder/thriller/mystery read that will leave you hanging until the last second.
- Now You See Her by James Patterson – This book will make you hate men. Which is probably why I liked it so much hahaha… A lot of twists and turns in this one which is about a woman who kills a man drunk driving on Spring Break and ends up marrying the cop who let her off the hook. But there is SO much more involved in the story as you’ll find out throughout the book.
- The Lying Game by Ruth Ware – I really enjoyed this book at first because it’s about a tight knit group of girlfriends who come together after a long time apart when a body is discovered. You know they had something to do with it but the author really makes you work to figure it out. It’s very much a love story between friends with a murder mixed in. Loved it!
- The Girl Before by JP Delaney – Whaaaat a ride this book is. I kept thinking I knew exactly what was going to happen and was wrong every single time. It also has a bit of a 50 Shades vibe in some parts with a super powerful/dominate man taking charge. Definitely didn’t mind those parts HA! All in all a great read if you love a thriller.
- Behind Her Eyes by Sara Pinborough – This was another CRAZY ending. Like…. Could not have even dreamed it up. This book was a great combination of a love story turned mystery. The author did a great job making you connect with the characters before throwing you for some serious loops!
- The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain – There are a lot of questions you ask yourself when reading this book. So many different story lines that end up tying together. I really loved how all of the characters ended up connected somehow in this suicide/murder situation. It’s also a great story about a family who has massive struggles but end up figuring them out together. Another really fast read for me.
And that is it for my Summer book list so far! If you have any recommendations of what I should read next please feel free to shoot me a message. I am always looking for the next best read 🙂
Some new Fall 2020 additions in no particular order:
- You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz: This book was wild!! It’s a story of a successful woman who has to go against all advice she has ever given anyone else when a brutal murder happens in her circle. Honestly I kept thinking I was going to know what was going to happen and it would throw me for another loop. If you start this book just be prepared to not want to stop!
- Second Honeymoon by James Patterson: Murder. Love. Mystery. Everything someone looks for in a James Patterson book! This was another one that I could not figure out until the very end and was pleasantly surprised with how it ended! But isn’t that how it is with every James Patterson book?! Highly recommend!
- The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay: Every now and then I just crave a good teenage love/angst story. I actually found myself clutching my heart and going “awww” at multiple parts of this story. Also a few tears (I’m emotionally stable I swear…). If you love a little mystery mixed with forbidden teenage love then read this ASAP!
- The Wives by Tarryn Fisher: So you’re married to a guy…. But he’s also married to multiple other girls and you only get to see him once a week. Say whaaat?! I couldn’t wrap my head around this concept either which is why this book is SO GOOD. Also the ending. Please read so we can discuss! One of my favorites of the year.
- The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda: Honestly never living in a house in the woods after reading this one. Or trusting any old friends from college who I don’t keep in touch with anymore. This was a strange story but it definitely pulls you in for a quick read. Another mystery book! Clearly I have a type.
