SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Firefighters suspect a mechanical issue in a fire that damaged a recycling truck Tuesday morning.
Fire Chief Joe Bertler says the blaze was reported just after 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Siesta Lane and Overlook Court. The driver was able to get out of the truck after noticing smoke and flames.
Large explosions heard in the area were the result of the truck’s tries exploding, the fire chief explained. Tanks carrying the compressed natural gas that powered the truck remained intact.
The truck’s cab was engulfed in flames, with black smoke billowing out before firefighters arrived.
The intersection will remain closed until crews can assess damage to the road and clean up the truck’s 11,000-pound load.
The truck is owned by Harter’s Disposal.
