(UW ATHLETICS) SEATTLE – Senior Braeden Carrington hit a program record nine three-pointers to lift Wisconsin over Washington, 90-73, on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
The Minnesota native finished with a career-high 32 points, draining nine-of-15 triples. It’s the most points for a Badger off the bench since at least 2004-05, with Rob Wilson being the other to do so in 2012. Carrington tallied four assists, four rebounds and a steal, to boot. The Badgers (20-9, 12-6 Big Ten) were spraying the net with a season-high 17 threes, while six players cashed in from behind the arc.
Nick Boyd got back into form with 22 points on 11-of-20 shooting, while matching a career-high 9 rebounds. He dished out five assists, as well. The New York native is now up to 18 20-plus point performances this year, good for second in the Big Ten.
Nolan Winter added 13 points, grabbing nine boards of his own. He was 3-of-5 from deep, as UW’s big man trio hit six threes on the day.
The Badgers got out to a hot start, going on a 12-3 run on the strength of three blow-by layups for Boyd. They kept the pace, earning an early double digit lead thanks to Carrington’s first two triples of the night. They didn’t falter from there, taking a 36-21 lead into halftime.
UW’s offense exploded in the second half, going for 54 points – the second highest scoring half of the season. Carrington dropped six triples in the period, as UW finished 17-of-38 from beyond the arc. UW posted 90 points overall, marking the 19th game with over 80 points, going undefeated in those contests.
