(DNR) – Wisconsin’s spring turkey season is just around the corner. It’s the perfect time to take your recreational shooting skills off the shooting range and into the field.
The Wisconsin DNR Turkey Hunting webpage is the best place to learn about turkey hunting. In a nutshell, here’s your pathway to get turkey hunting:
- Take a Hunter Safety class or hunt with a mentor.
- Sign up for a Turkey Learn to Hunt or Outdoors Skills program.
- Find a property with turkeys and study their movements before you hunt.
- Shoot/pattern your shotgun. Consider using nontoxic turkey hunting loads.
- Buy your 2026 Turkey License, Turkey Stamp and Harvest Authorization.
- Harvest Authorizations designate the dates and location where you are authorized to hunt.
- For first preference of hunting dates and location, hunters must apply to the DNR by Dec. 10 each year. If you miss the deadline, remaining turkey harvest authorizations go on sale starting on March 16.
Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or new to the hunting world, turkey hunting is a fun and rewarding way to put your shooting skills to work, spend time outdoors and, for those who harvest a turkey, get a rewarding meal.
