GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — High school students staged a walkout this afternoon to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
The Green Bay Area Public School District sent a notice out to East, Preble, Southwest, and West High School families informing them that the district was aware of an image circulating between high school students encouraging them to walk out of class at 12:30 p.m. and head to downtown Green Bay to protest ICE.
Several students carried signs with phrases such as ICE out, ICE melts, immigrants build America, etc.
The district added that although they recognize students have the right to express themselves under the fifth amendment, any student missing from class, unless a parent/guardian called to excuse them, would have an unexcused absence.
