(WIAC) – INDIANAPOLIS–The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has placed four teams in the NCAA Division III Football Championship, marking the first time in NCAA Division III history a conference has accomplished the feat.
UW-River Falls secured an automatic bid after winning the WIAC regular-season title, while UW-La Crosse, UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater claimed three of the 13 at-large bids into the 40-team field.
UW-River Falls (9-1) received a first-round bye and will host the winner of Whitworth College (Wash.) (8-2) and Chapman University (Calif.) (8-2) in the second round. The Falcons will make their first NCAA appearance since 1996 and third overall.
UW-La Crosse (7-2) will travel to Hope College (Mich.) (9-1) in the first round. The Eagles own 16 NCAA appearances, including five straight.
UW-Platteville (8-2) will host Alma College (Mich.) (8-2) in its first-round contest. The Pioneers will make their second consecutive NCAA appearance and fourth overall.
UW-Whitewater (8-2) will host DePauw University (Ind.) (9-1) in the first round. The Warhawks have 20 NCAA showings.
All first-round games will be held Nov. 22, and kickoff at noon local time.
