MISHICOT. WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Lakeshore teacher received a big surprise Friday when she was named a 2026 Wisconsin Teacher of the Year.
Lisa Van Hefty is a special education teacher at OH Schultz Elementary School in Mishicot. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction says she “has been a champion for inclusive education and student advocacy, building strong, meaningful connections with her students, families, and colleagues” during her 27-year career.
She was also recognized for “creating nurturing, student-centered learning environments that foster growth, independence, and confidence.”
Van Hefty is the fourth of five Wisconsin teachers to receive the award this year.
