MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Lee Thennes will continue serving as the superintendent of the Manitowoc Public School District.
Thennes was appointed in September as the district’s interim superintendent following the resignation of James Feil. Thennes was one of three finalists for the position.
According to a news release, the school board is finalizing its contract with Thennes and plans to vote on his hiring at the April 29 board meeting.
“I am deeply committed to our students, staff, families, and community, and look forward to building on the district’s strengths while working together to create even greater opportunities for every learner,” Thennes said in the release. “Our future is bright, and I’m excited to lead the district on this continued journey of excellence, innovation, and student success.”
Thennes’ career with MPSD has spanned two decades. He has worked as a teacher, principal of Wilson Junior High and Lincoln High and in a leadership role within the district’s central office.
His wife is a school counselor at Lincoln and the pair raised their children in Manitowoc.
Board President Chris Able said he is excited to see Thennes’ passion for improving student educational opportunities help build on the district’s successes.
“We look forward to working with Mr. Thennes to improve the quality and variety of educational opportunities in the MPSD,” Able said in the release.
