GREEN BAY (WLUK) — The Port of Green Bay has put out a formal request for development information for the former Pulliam Power Plant site that has been reserved for downtown Green Bay’s coal piles.
Brown County bought the site in 2022. The coal piles would take up about a third of the site.
“This RFI is being issued so that interested parties can connect with the Port and share their ideas to develop this important location,” port director Dean Haen said in a news release. “We’re excited to see what’s out there with regards to creating economic development and family-supporting jobs.”
The parcel, currently zoned general industrial, may be divided into sections to maximize funding and provide options for multiple users.
Brown County is negotiating with C. Reiss Coal Company, the owner of the coal piles, to move them to the new site. A study found the current coal piles property could garner about $150 million in new development.
County leaders have previously said they’d like to see what other entities would be interested in the new port site in case a deal can’t be reached with C. Reiss to relocate the coal piles.
