TOWNSEND, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A bar in Townsend has been destroyed by a fire.
At approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday, crews were paged to the Long Branch Saloon on Highway 32 in Townsend. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the basement/crawl space under the building.
More than half a dozen neighboring departments helped fight the blaze, but the building was a total loss.
“Crews worked for nearly 12 hours in below freezing temperatures which added to the challenge of the fire,” a news release from the Townsend Volunteer Fire Department states.
Firefighters said Sunday evening they are aware “there are still some spots with flames visible” which is “not uncommon in this type of situation.” According to officials, they will continue to monitor the scene due to the extreme cold.
A Facebook post from Long Branch Saloon said the business will be closed until further notice.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share some news. Our beloved Townsend staple, Long Branch Saloon, with years and generations of fun and memories, caught fire. We don’t know what’s next, but we do know we will deeply miss our amazing customers,” the post reads. “A tremendous thank you to all the firefighters and volunteers for their incredible efforts. Your support means the world to us.”
