DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A new aquatic center is being built in De Pere. It will replace the VFW Pool, on the city’s westside.
The groundbreaking took place Thursday. Plans have been eight years in the making.
The project is valued at more than 6 million dollars.
A 2016 survey showed strong support for the idea.
Marty Kosobucki, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry telling FOX 11…..
“The referendum passed overwhelmingly, so we are here for what the community wants. We’re here for the quality of life. The community said this is a need for us.”
The aquatic center will include a slide, a tot area for small children, and lap swim.
The VFW pool is scheduled to open June of 2021.
Rebuilding Legion Pool, on the eastside, is also in the works. Although there is no official timeline for when construction will start.
