(WNFL) – Racine St. Catherine’s took a 14-0 halftime lead and then held on to defeat Baldwin-Woodville 26-22 to win the WIAA Division 4 state football championship at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison Thursday night.
Racine St. Catherine’s won despite being outgained in total yardage 369-290 including 316-70 in passing yards.
Eddie Vinson completed 7-of-14 passes for 183 yards for Racine St. Catherine’s and threw 3 touchdown passes.
Gavin Sell led Baldwin-Woodville with 145 yards rushing. Dane Veenedall added 137 yards rushing.
Vinson put Racine St Catherine’s up 20-0 on 3 touchdown passes in the second and third quarters covering 59, 23 and 49 yards to Lamont Hamilton.
Sell scored on a 6-yard run before Racine St. Catherine’s responded with an 83-yard kickoff return by Hamilton for a 26-8 lead that was too much for Baldwin-Woodville to overcome.
Racine St. Catherine’s was making only its second state championship game appearance. It’s first was in 2018.
This was Baldwin-Woodville’s fifth state tournament championship game but first since 1994.
