(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) INDIANAPOLIS – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team hit .351 and was led by 12 kills from outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 sweep of Butler on Wednesday evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
With their 12th conference victory, the Golden Eagles (18-6, 12-1 BIG EAST) qualified for the 2024 BIG EAST Women’s Volleyball Championship Presented by JEEP, which will be held Nov. 27-30 at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.
Hamilton hit .370 herself and posted six digs and three blocks, while Hattie Bray, Natalie Ring, Yadhira Anchante and Carsen Murray all posted at least five kills and hitting percentages of .412-or-above.
MU notched eight total blocks and posted five of those in a second set victory in which it hit .542.
Elise Ward paced the Bulldogs (6-19, 4-9 BIG EAST) with 12 kills and BU hit just .150 combined.
NOTABLE:
- Marquette is 22-9 all-time against Butler and has won each of the last seven matches against the Bulldogs.
- Save for five-set losses during the 2014, 2017 and 2020 regular seasons, MU has won 21 of 24 contests since the Bulldogs entered the BIG EAST for the 2013 campaign.
- MU hit .342 to sweep the first matchup this season, 25-18, 25-11, 25-20 on Oct. 6 at the Al McGuire Center. Ring had 13 kills in the win and MU combined for 10.0 team blocks, led by five from Ella Foti.
- The Golden Eagles are on an 12-match winning streak, beginning with their last match against Butler, a sweep at the Al McGuire Center on Oct. 6.
- MU trailed early in the first set before a seven-serve rally by Foti capped an 8-0 run for the Golden Eagles. Foti had two service aces in that span and forced a couple of easy kills off overpasses from her serve.
- The Bulldogs played their fourth match in a row without outside hitter Abby Maesch, the squad’s kill leader with 3.38 kills per set to rank seventh in the BIG EAST.
