ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – The 8th Congressional District, covering NE Wisconsin, will stay in Republican hands for the next two years. Tony Wied has defeated Dr Kristin Lyerly, his Democratic opponent. In comments to supporters, Wied promised to put his business background to work on Capitol Hill to get things done.
“I could no longer stand by and watch the continuing dysfunction. I knew I needed to do something and that’s why I got into this race.”
Lyerly says, other than the outcome… she wouldn’t run her campaign any differently….
“We’ve been all over the district, talking to people, hearing from people. I think, we haven’t left anything on the field.”
Final numbers show Wied consistently running with 59 percent of the vote. This is his first run for political office. Wied will replace Republican Mike Gallagher, who stepped down from the office over the summer.
