DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — National Fire Prevention Association welcomes this year’s Fire Prevention Week.
This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work For You.”
The theme shows the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.
“Sometimes you’re alerted by an occasional chirping sound if your smoke alarm battery is dying,” said Ron Cody with the De Pere Fire Department. “Here at the De Pere Fire Department, we have a program where if you call we can come out and check your smoke detectors, make sure they’re working properly, and make sure you have the right amount of them in your residence.”
Officials also say it’s important to stay in the kitchen while you’re cooking, have a fire extinguisher in an easy to locate place, and have an escape plan.
