(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Salvation Army has deployed its disaster response teams to the southeast to assist in Hurricane Helene relief.
The Salvation Army has crews in six states.
Major Catherine Fitzgerald of the Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay says that as the natural disaster unfolds, those crews will call in for more resources.
“Right now, its still just the local teams,” said Fitzgerald. “They have already called in people from around the region in the southeast, but as they get exhausted and as they need more, they will be calling all the way up to Green Bay.”
The search for victims of Hurricane Helene is now entering its second week.
At least 215 people are dead – making it the deadliest hurricane to hit the mainland U.S. since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Washed out roads, downed power lines and mudslides are making it hard to reach some areas that have been impacted by Helene.
Dozens of agencies are helping in the recovery and response efforts.
