Brett Favre reveals Parkinson's diagnosis
(WTAQ) — Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre has revealed that he was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The former Green Bay Quarterback opened up during a Tuesday congressional hearing in Washington regarding welfare reform.
“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others,” Favre said. “I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, this is also a cause dear to my heart.”
Following Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disorder in the United States. Tremor is common in Parkinson’s disease. But the disorder also may cause stiffness, slowing of movement and trouble with balance that raises the risk of falls.
There is no known cure for the disease, but medications may help to lessen symptoms.
