WLUK) — The state appeals court Wednesday denied the appeal of Anthony Cordova for a 1973 murder in Outagamie County.
Cordova, now 71, was convicted for the 1973 murder of Geronimo Santos, the father of Cordova’s then-girlfriend. He was sentenced to life in prison.
In 2021, Cordova asked the circuit court for a new trial on several grounds, including allegations the state withheld exculpatory evidence, and his attorney was ineffective. The motion was denied, and he appealed.
In a four-page ruling Wednesday, the appeals court again denied his motion.
Cordova’s brief, however, fails to include an “argument, arranged in the order of the statement of issues presented,” as required by WIS. STAT. RULE 809.19(1)(e). Rather, Cordova’s brief utilizes a stream-of-consciousness narrative in an attempt to essentially relitigate the entire matter, and, ultimately, his purported legal arguments are undeveloped and fall below even the lenient standards we apply to pro se appellants.
To the extent Cordova presents legal assertions and conclusions, he fails to provide an analysis supported by record citations leading to a rational consideration of his purported issues under relevant law.
Cordova is currently housed at the Waupun Correctional Institution. He’s eligible for parole on April 28, 2025, state records show.
