FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A second suspect has been convicted in the April 2023 fentanyl overdose death of a man in Ripon.
Joseph L. Schmidt-Rehbein, 17, pleaded no contest to a count of first-degree reckless homicide. According to the criminal complaint, Schmidt-Rehbein provided a fentanyl-laced pill that the victim crushed up and snorted; the 18-year-old victim died soon after.
Investigators say the people in the home took the victim outside, placed him on the sidewalk and ran away.
The criminal complaint does not name the victim.
Sentencing has been set for Dec. 20.
Four other people were charged in the case.
- Maison Springston, 18, pleaded guilty to to first-degree reckless homicide last month. He is due back in court Oct. 10.
- Michael Manske, 23, is scheduled for a plea hearing on Tuesday.
- Donavyn Mueller, 19, is scheduled for a trial beginning Nov. 4.
- Olivia Nordvold, 18, is scheduled for a plea hearing Nov. 11.
