(WNFL/247NEWSSOURCE/LEARFIELD) – One city is beefing up security ahead of a regular season NFL game.
Sao Paulo officials announced Wednesday that civil and military police will be increased around Corinthians Arena when the Packers and Eagles clash at the iconic soccer venue Friday night.
It’s the first time the NFL will hold a regular season game in Brazil, which is the 17th-most dangerous country in the world according to 2023 homicide data.
Dinged up: The Packers have several players listed as “questionable” for tonight’s Week One showdown in Sao Paulo. MarShawn Lloyd and Tucker Kraft could miss the game due to injury. Lloyd is dealing with a hamstring issue while Kraft is nursing a back problem. Emanuel Wilson is also questionable with a hip injury.
The Eagles, meanwhile, are listing cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and linebacker Devin White as out for tonight’s game with hand and ankle injuries, respectively.
The offensive line: Packers coach Matt LaFleur said prior to the team’s departure that the Philadelphia Eagles defense will provide a stiff test for the Packers offensive line but, hey, the Packers return 4 of last season’s 5 starters heading into tonight’s game.
LaFleur said that of the biggest challenges the offensive line will face is Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter.
Nervous or not: Green Bay Packers rookie safety Javon Bullard gets to play his very first NFL game tonight.
Yep, he’s excited.
Does he expect to be nervous?
What has he been told about the Eagles offensive players?
Take a deep breathe or maybe not: Air quality in Sao Paulo, Brazil is expected to be moderate for tonight’s game after air best described as trying to inhale Cream of Mushroom soup the last few days.
According to iqair.com, the air quality in Sao Paulo due to raging wild fires was unhealthy for sensitive groups on Monday and Tuesday and unhealthy on Wednesday and Thursday. Recommendations on Wednesday and Thursday were to avoid outdoor exercise, wear a mask, close windows to avoid dirty air and run an air purifier.
